Marfa Live Arts presents Movement Theater a course focused on improving health functioning through mindfulness and exercises using theater arts practices.

The workshop is June 1-4, 2021 during Camp Summer Shake-Up, in partnership with MISD. Entering our 9th year of participating, attendance is for 3rd through 8th grade students.

Movement Theater is taught by playwright/actor/educator Eliza Bent. Guest artist Bent has devised multiple movement-based work (Big Dance Theater, Football.) In Obie-winning HALF STRADDLE and SEAGULL, Bent originated and choreographed numerous roles. Both shows toured internationally. A MacDowell Fellow, Bent’s work has been produced at Abrons Arts Center, JACK, New Ohio, Atlantic Theatre, Bushwick Starr and New York Theatre Workshop’s Next Door Series. Bent is part of the Goodman Theatre's Playwrights Unit, has an MFA in playwriting from Brooklyn College, and currently teaches writing at Northwestern University.

Marfa Live Arts believes that one healthy way to help students in expressing themselves through the difficulties of the pandemic is through the drama therapy our program provides. We believe Movement Theater instills lessons which will serve these participants well and better provide them with tools to live a healthy and more mindful lifestyle into the future.
